1 week down 2,236 weeks to go

That is how many weeks I have left until retirement. Not that I am dreading work, but I saw the year of my retirement on paperwork this week and it shocked me. I never thought about the actual year that I could possibly retire, for those of you who are wondering that year is 2056. YIKES!

Last I left off I had spent the weekend at home, I spent that week doing absolutely nothing. Which is not okay, I should have been studying. I did however finish watching the entire season of Desperate Housewives, I think that’s 4 shows this entire summer. I seriously have no life. Ah the summer post grad. We had a flag football game and I managed to catch the ball 4 times. I figured out I can only guarantee a catch if I’m close so I just go far enough away to get a completion and then wait for the ball.

Monday I started work. I picked out my outfit the night before (I’ve been doing this everyday..saves time) and then set my alarm for 6:30am. When I woke up I got ready for work, shuffled around my house waiting until it was time to go and then drove to work. They were validating parking our first day so I took the opportunity to drive to work. We spent the entire day learning about the company and the basics of what we would be doing. I got home a little later than I normally will, but still managed to get a parking spot across the street from my house. SCORE!

Tuesday I had to be at work a little later, I decided to take a bus that comes later than the one I will normally take. Well my bus never showed up. Boo. I have been stalking the bus schedule for a while now so I knew I had other options I just had to walk up a couple of blocks. So I walked up to the park and hopped on the first bus that came. I was one of the last to show up, but I still managed to be early so I was happy. Tuesday was spent learning all about the programs we will be using and more of the actual things we will be doing for our first year. Hopped on the bus home and survived my second day.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I decided to take my regular bus and show up almost an hour early, but the later bus is just too crowded. I took the time in the morning to do somethings I needed to, but I will probably use that time in the future to study a little bit. More training happened and it all felt like a ton of information being thrown at us. I think once I start really working it will feel better about it and finally get the hang of it. Friday I think was the most important training as we learned about major industry that we work with. Friday afternoon we finally got to sit at our desks (cubicles). My cubicle friends are nice and I am even going to be working on a few projects with them so that will be nice.

Friday night for dinner my roommate and I attended a soft opening. Red Robin is opening up near by and they were training their staff so they invited the neighborhood to stop by for free food. We were able to get an appetizer, two dinners (unless you wanted a main entrée then you could get one and a burger..kinda confusing), a dessert, and a milkshake. So to say we left stuffed is a given. We got our milkshakes to go and drank them as we walked home. It was a really neat experience and it was a nice way to relax after my first full week at work.

The rest of the weekend was spent at a flag football game, catching up on cleaning, and cracking down on studying!

weekend roundup

Last time I left off I was headed home for the weekend for mother daughter weekend. Well I had quite the travel day on Thursday. Lets just say I didn’t pull into my drive way until 2:45am Friday. YIKES! I had to be up at 6:30am to bring my mom to work so I could use her car for the day to run errands so I didn’t get much sleep. Luckily the tiredness didn’t hit me until Saturday and I had plenty of energy for some work clothes shopping.

Friday night my mom and I arrived at camp right in time for dinner. We met up with our cabin mates and headed to dinner. We spent the rest of the evening sitting around the fire catching up and drinking wine. I hit the hay early and was ready for a fun filled weekend with my mom, cousins, and aunts. We spent Saturday at the craft shop and small crafts (boating). Sunday we spent the morning at the archery range and on the ropes course. After lunch my mom and I quickly headed to my grandparents to visit for a little bit and then booked it home to finish packing and get on the road for my flight home.

My flight left on time and I couldn’t wait to get back to my apartment, but we sat on the tarmac for 20 minutes in Baltimore when there was a plane still at our gate. I made it home around 9pm and was lucky to find a parking spot only a block and a half away!! I am happy to say I am glad to be back home. And as I promised months ago I have some pictures of my room!!

It finally feels like a real room and my bed is thanking me!

Stitch Fix

Well I hopped on the Stitch Fix train. I had signed up earlier in April, but didn’t take the plunge until a couple of weeks ago. Wednesday my first box arrived. Let me back up a little and explain what Stitch Fix is. Stitch Fix is basically a personal stylist. On the website you tell them your size, style, price range and a personal stylist is assigned to you and creating your box. You even get to assign when you want your box!

Before I ordered my first box I took a lot of time to think and decide if I reallllly wanted to get a box. After a lot of consideration I decided it was a go. The initial cost was $20 and was used as a shipping fee, but could be credited towards a purchase from my box. If you end up keeping all five items from your box you get 25% off your purchase as well as the original 20$ credited.

So around 3pm on Wednesday my box arrived. I barreled down the stairs to catch the FedEx girl and barreled back up the stairs to rip it open! I knew the prices of my options before I got my box because I had gone on the website and it told me. The prices were a little higher than I would have liked, but I remembered that I also said it could be a little higher since I had asked for some business casual. So I also knew I received two dresses, a shirt, a pair of pants, and a jacket/sweater. IMG_2063 IMG_2064

The first piece I tried on was the red dress. I liked the style, but the color just isn’t for me. The dress was the second most expense item I received. The arms were a little tight, but overall it fit nicely. It was a little thicker so it would have been nice to wear in the winter with a pair of tights, but ultimately I decided against the dress. I actually didn’t end up trying on this item because with one look I knew it wasn’t for me. To be honest it reminded me of something my mom would wear (no offense mom!) and I’m pretty sure she has something very similar. IMG_2071

The third item I tried on was the second dress. I loved the pattern and style of this dress! It was the most expense item in my box and that helped me decide about whether I wanted it or not. It also was a little long, fell right below my knee. If it had been cheaper and wasn’t so long I probably would have kept it. IMG_2072

I started to put on the pants and decided against it. Apparently tuxedo pants are in style now, but it really just isn’t for me. I just am not that badass. The material was nice and thick and would have been nice for pants, but wasn’t for me. The price wasn’t horrible either.

The last item was a hi-lo blouse. I immediately loved it because of the color. I also loved that it was short-sleeved because I don’t have many blouses that are short-sleeved and I could easily wear a sweater or jacket over it and not feel like I am suffocating. I tried it on and liked how it felt and where it fell on my body. This item was the cheapest in my box and I decided to keep it! I tried it on with some skirts in my closet and realized I could utilize this shirt with many items already in my closet.

So overall I ended up keeping one item, but I was happy with what I kept and what I sent back. Each item also came with a styling card and that was super helpful. Online once you get your box you get to tell Stitch Fix what you’re keeping. You also tell them about the sizing, style, price, fit, and any comments you had. I made sure to leave comments on everything and was very specific. Also I already ordered my next box! It will be coming in the middle of October so I will have received at least one paycheck. That will be nice 😉 So overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to all. If you want to sign up you can use this link (shameless plug: referral link – which by the way gives you credit)! IMG_2075

The Mondays

Most people find Monday to be the worst day of the week, I sometimes fall into this category. Recently though that hasn’t been the case. Since I haven’t started working yet and I just study all day I find myself finding ways to get distracted. Mondays end up being the day that I get my focus back and get to the nitty gritty. Every since Saturday I have been slacking in the CPA studying department. Today I knew I needed to get to it. Well get to it, is what I did. I thankfully finished a whole chapter and the homework (might not seem like a lot…it is).

Backing up to this past weekend I had a lot on my plate. I got a letter on Friday from work about my background check that I need to take care of as quick as possible. I used this as an excuse to go to a bank near school and get breakfast with a friend. Meredith and I hit up Towson Hot Bagel and it was SO delicious!! I haven’t had it in so long and an everything bagel with lox and cream cheese is just what I needed. It was still mid morning when I got back ( I wanted to get everything out of the way in the morning) so I got to work with CPA stuff. Seriously it’s taking over my life. I finished the chapter I was working on and then had to get ready. What was I getting ready for?? Oh just a friendly game of flag football. Yup I joined a flag football team and we had our first game. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be and I really liked everyone on our team. After the game we stayed after and enjoyed a few beverages while our captain reffed the game after ours. Then we all headed to one of the bars that sponsors the league for some drinks and appetizers. By the time we got back to our house we were exhausted, but it was well worth it. Friends are in the making 😉 Finally something to do with my life other than people watch out our living room window.

Sunday was spent doing a whole lot of nothing, I attempted to review the 7 chapters I had covered in my CPA book, but really didn’t get very far. I instead watched a whole lot of Desperate Housewives and attempted to finish my scrapbook from my trip abroad. Overall it was a nice relaxing weekend that I needed to take a semi small break from studying.

Tonight is the last day I sleep on an air mattress and tomorrow my bed-spring and mattress arrive. I will finally have a free bedroom!! Then on Thursday I’m headed home!
