a hiatus

Well that was quite a hiatus from the blogging world. Good news I’m back (at least for now). Since I have been gone I haven’t really done much, just worked A LOT. Oh and I made this thing called a quilt!! I have been wanting to make a quilt for a while now and I finally just sat down with a friend and did the whole thing!!! I am so happy with the way it came out and it only took us 6 hours and 15 minutes to make, we literally didn’t even stop to eat lunch. I used a bunch of t-shirts from Loyola got some fabric for a border and back and went to work. I would love to make another one with my t-shirts from high school so that may be next on my list.

Even though I briefly posted on fathers day, I did not mention the fact that my sister graduated high school! It feels like just yesterday I was graduating and I know how cliché that sounds, but the fact that I graduate COLLEGE in a year really freaks me out. It was a long hot day, full of apply sun screen multiple times during the long ceremony, and still getting sunburned.

Elizabeth wasn’t the only graduation we celebrated. Thomas graduated 8th grade the Monday after Elizabeth’s graduation. He is officially a high schooler, and that is pretty scary. He was mentioned in one of the speeches and is now famous, apparently he invented a new word this year…RAWNR! I made sure to thoroughly embarrass him as much as I could during the ceremony. I think everyone in the auditorium knew I was his sibling by the end of it….YOUR WELCOME THOMAS 🙂 Speaking of Thomas he has been running on Tuesday nights and because I haven’t had to work, I get to be his lucky chauffeur. You would think I would, oh you know run with him (obviously not at the same pace) but I don’t I bring my book and read.

That brings me to my next point. Since I finished school in early May I have read 6 books, and I am on my 7th. One week I finished three books, it was a little ridiculous. But when work was slow, I just sat at home and I would read.I read all the fifty shades books (love the love story that actually happens throughout the books…its not just about sex). Hope in a Jar by Beth Harbison, Heart of the Matter by Emily Griffin, Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews and I am currently reading Summer in the City by Candace Bushnell. I have another Mary Kay Andrews book on my kindle ready to go when I go to the cape next weekend and I spend the whole weekend on the beach. Other than reading, graduations, a quilt, a sushi date, and working my life has been fairly boring. I will check in soon with an update, I have a few things planned in the next two weeks before I head back to Baltimore until December.

Fathers Day

Today is a day to celebrate fathers and that is just what we are doing here at my home and I promised my dad I would take him out for ice cream later! I could not have asked for a better dad. I know (even when he jokes about it) that he loves all of us so much. I can say without a doubt that my dad would do anything for, especially when it comes to my car 😉 After everything that life has thrown him, he has come out the better man and I am proud to call him dad. So today is for him…and for the grandfathers! Wouldn’t be where I am today without them either!!

Bootcamp

Friday marked the end of week three for bootcamp and boy was it a doosey. The instructor decided we would do three different tabatas to celebrate three weeks. Ohhhh how I love tabatas (and that is full sarcasm). So Friday we did a tabata where we did a squat, came up with a hammer curl and up into a shoulder press. I started with my heavier weights and boy were my shoulders burning. For our second tabata we did low planks to high planks, these were a little better than the first tabata, but about halfway through I had to go from my toes to my knees. Our last tabata was a squat with a quick foot shuffle, meaning we would squat with all pressure on one foot and with the other step in and out quickly. Boy were my thighs burning after that. Although I hate getting up at 5am four days a week, I love how I feel after and when I return to school I will really miss bootcamp.

Next week is my last week at camp, I am still deciding whether I want to do another session or not since I will be leaving half way through that session to go back to school. Next Friday we are having fitness testing and I am hoping to improve on my stats from two weeks ago, I may have to practice up at some point next week!

I wish I could say that I have beenextremely busy and that is the reason behind neglecting the blog. That would be a lie. I do absolutely nothing all day long so there is nothing to fill you in on. I do however lie around in my bed until one of my parents calls me and asks me to run an errand for them. My life revolves around thinking about reorganizing my room, actually attempting to do it, reading book after book after book, and then sleeping.

Even though this week seemed to go by soooo slow there was actually a lot a good amount I accomplished. I got a new tire, brought my car to get some work done, brought my car to get inspected, got my car registered, got more work done on it, and finally today got it back. I am proud to say I paid for about half off the work, inspection, tire, and registration. Makes me feel good and makes me feel a little more broke. Oh well, the real world is quickly approaching and a car will be the least of my payment worries.

I also started a DIY project that I have been wanting to do for a couple of years now. A t-shirt quilt! I convinced Maureen to help me because she has been sewing forever now. I sorted my t-shirts and ultimately decided on a college t-shirt quilt. I had a lot of left over t-shirts though and if this runs smoothly maybe I will make one with all my shirts from high school! The quilt won’t be too big, but it won’t be too small either, just a bit bigger than a lap quilt. Overall there will be 12 t-shirts used and I am really excited to see how it will turn out. Hopefully I can finish it before I go back to school!

Other than that I am working on the weekends and trying to do something with my life. Thank gosh next week starts the official summer season at the campground and I can finally work full-time. I need to moolah and fast considering I don’t have a job from the middle of July until September.

MDW recap

So a week late with my recap, I’ve been busy lazy. Lets start with last Friday, I woke up at 5:00am to make it to my 5:30 bootcamp class where fitness testing was taking place….wahoo!! We had to run a mile, do pushups, situps, right side and left side planks for a minute each. Last summer I took about two minutes off my mile time so I was hoping I could get around the same time even though I knew I was not in the same running shape. I ran about a minute slower last Friday, but I am hoping by the end of the month to be closer to last years time. As for the pushups and others, there is always room to improve! After bootcamp I worked all day and then enjoyed a family dinner.

Saturday was a long day at work. I started working at 8am and was supposed to get out at 4pm, but ended up getting out at 6pm. No complaints, I am one broke college student so the extra hours were fine with me. Since my dad’s brother and sister-in-law have been visiting we ate dinner at my grandparents house again. Sunday was the same, work at the campground and then work at the restaurant at night. It was good to be back at the restaurant and to be fairly busy. Sunday also marked my moms 45th birthday so after work I headed to my grandparents house for cake!!

Monday I worked half a day at the campground and then spent the rest of the day relaxing before heading to the night class for bootcamp. Last summer I went to a bunch of night classes and the class sizes were small, never more than 5 or 6 people. This class was huge and full of excitement. The session was hard and I left with my legs shaking. In fact the continued to shake all week. As for the rest of week I attended class on Tuesday, Thursday and today. So week two is over!
