Siblings Weekend

This past weekend we had more siblings staying in our apartment, this time they were mine. Thomas and Michael flew to Baltimore on Friday afternoon! After a less than smooth time at the airport I finally picked up the boys and we headed back to school. We had nothing on the schedule until 7pm and it was only 3pm when we got back so we lounged around for the rest of the day. At 7 we headed out the door to bowling. Originally we were supposed to go go-karting, but tickets for that fell through and bowling it was. We played 3 and half games and got some food to eat. We were falling asleep on the way home, but had to keep ourselves awake for midnight breakfast. I made sure we got there right at midnight so we could be one of the first people in line. By 12:30am we were in bed and ready to sleep.

When we woke up the next morning I made cake batter pancakes for us and boy were they yummy!! We lounged again for a while before we headed to get some froyo. Both boys got milk chocolate froyo, Michael got chocolate chips on his and Thomas got M&Ms. After we finished our froyo we headed to the FAC. Thomas insisted that we go to the rock wall and climb. I watched and took pictures (on my phone because I forgot my camera) while they climbed. Thomas climbed two walls and so did Michael. We decided to play some basketball and soccer before going upstairs to play a couple of games of Wii Tennis.

After the FAC we had to go to the grocery store to get some bread and bacon for dinner (we had grilled cheese). For the rest of the night we had no plans so we just watched movies before going to bed. We had an early wake up call for bagels with my mom before she had to pick up the boys to go home. I gave my mom a couple of things to take home and then they were on the way. It was a good weekend, and soon I will be back home with them all!

Intermural Soccer

In my three years at Loyola I have not played one intermural sport, that is until last Tuesday night. Around 8pm a resident knocked on my door and asked me to play on their soccer team. SAY WHATTTTT? Usually I am in my pajamas and ready to crash at that point (ya I’m a crazy college student, I know) but I had a meeting so I wasn’t. I tried to use that as my excuse, because really who plays soccer after 9pm? Oh this team does, their game wasn’t until 10:40pm. I told them I would play as their last resort, because by 10:40 I am definitely in my pajamas.

At 10:15pm (yes PM I still can’t believe it either, and I thought the gym closed at 11pm) I laced up my sneaks and headed out. Five of my residents were on the team and could actually play so we set out for the FAC. On the way to the FAC we all chatted and it turns out one of my residents has a house in Conway. Better yet on Stark Road so we bonded over the fact that I know exactly where she lives and we made plans to get together and go on a hike up Foss Mountain this summer.

I dubbed myself the sub and didn’t play right away, I ended up only playing about 10 minutes (if that) of the whole game, but it ended up being really fun. I thought I would dread it, but it made me really miss soccer. Especially the teammates I actually liked (ehm Nicole). I have barely touched a soccer ball since senior year in high school and I really miss the sport. I think I am going to try to coerce my residents next year into making a team! In other news, Thomas and Michael arrive later today and are here for the weekend.

On Sunday we headed into DC. I cannot believe that in the past three years I have been at Loyola that I haven’t been to DC yet. When I heard that Dan, Dawn, and the kids were going to be in DC I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to go. I talked to Mary and we decided we should all go since Nora was here visiting.

We knew we wanted to go to the Holocaust Museum and Georgetown Cupcakes. Tickets to the museum are free, so we figured we would reserve them ahead of time. Well online you could only get tickets for June, July, and August. We also knew that we wouldn’t make the 10am ticket time because of our train. It just happened to work out that Dan and Dawn were planning on going to the museum that day as well so I asked them to pick us up tickets. They are amazing and did just that, with an early time too! We had tickets for 11:45am which was perfect timing.

We spent about an hour and a half in the museum and I probably could have spent some more time too, which is different because I am not a museum person. Before we went in the museum we walked over the Washington Monument, after the museum we continued to walk to the WWII Memorial, and then over towards the White House. We grabbed lunch at PotBelly Deli which was yummy.

Our next mission was the cupcake place that stars in the TLC show DC Cupcakes. We knew we would have to wait in line, but it was so hot out that it seemed unbearable at times. After about a 45 minute wait we finally made it in the door. I got a peanut butter fudge and a cookies and cream cupcake. Both cupcakes were okay, but I am not sure that I am 100% satisfied. After we got our cupcakes we hopped in a cab to nearest metro and then took the metro to the train station. We were two hours early for our train so we ended up getting on an earlier train and home at an earlier hour which was perfect! It was a beautiful day in DC and I can’t wait to go back!

This past weekend my roommate Mary’s sister came to visit! We have been dying to go to Annapolis since the semester began, but haven’t had the chance to make it there yet. We decided this past Friday would be the day! It’s only a half hour drive south and it was the perfect weather. We hopped in and out of little boutiques and they were so cute.

After shopping we got hungry and stopped to have lunch at the Federal House Bar and Grill. I was craving a burger and that is exactly what I got. It was SO good, I haven’t had arealllllly good burger in a while and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. After lunch we shopped the other side of the road and just had to stop in a candy store. I got a caramel covered apple and it was unlike any other apple I have ever eaten. The caramel was thicker than I usually get and it was perfect for a candy apple.

I cannot wait to go back to Annapolis some point soon. I am already planning to hopefully have a floor event next year that goes to Annapolis!
